Tour de Pologne in wood sculpture

81. Tour de Pologne
August 17, 2024
Stage 6, distance 183.2 km
Wadowice – Bukowina Tatrzańska

A race that needs no introduction. Among cyclists, it’s a national celebration.
The most dedicated cyclists ride to be there. Locals await along the entire route, warming up while watching the live stream on their phones attached to their bike handlebars.
The competitors in the TdP participate in the UCI World Tour (Union Cycliste Internationale), the International Cycling Union. Currently, the organizer of this largest cycling event in Poland is Lang Team, who, together with a number of sponsors, allows us to experience such an event in various ways.

The event’s logistics are well-organized, and the work pace during the race, before, and after, is very efficient.
Stage 6 of the race includes two Lotto sprint prizes in Jabłonka and Szaflary, as well as three PZU Category 1 mountain prizes: Ściana Bukovina (2x) and Ściana Harnaś.
An event worth watching live, which only increases the desire to ride a bike.

In the post, I have included 5 graphics created in the style of carving or embedding the entire image or part of it into a uniform material of wood. The wood texture is based on a real material with further processing through generative fill in Adobe Photoshop using AI technology. The effect was achieved by completely removing the colors from the photos and, in some cases, adding contrast or blurring the image. The black-and-white color scheme helps highlight the difference in height illusion, where the light color remains unchanged, and the black is maximally recessed. The shades of gray are less recessed compared to black.
The photos of the cyclists were taken about 2-3 km before the finish line, while the mountain photos were selected from the very scenic areas of Bukowina Tatrzańska.

On the general classification podium were:
1 – Jonas Vingegaard (Denmark) [24h29m22s]
2 – Diego Ulissi (Italy)
3 – Wilco Kelderman (Netherlands)

Huge appreciation for the organizers, sponsors, participants, staff, and fans.

The selected graphics illustrate my skills in changing and affecting the visual appearance of a person, object, or landscape based on the original background. The final effect is subjective and covers a specific time frame. Each of us perceives things differently, and each of us has a different time frame or skill set. Posts published periodically with a specific thematic project aim to systematically collect materials illustrating graphic possibilities.

Enjoy watching!
