Fields of Glory in oil paint style

Fields of Glory 2024
18th Edition
Niepołomice, September 27-29, 2024

An event that brings together a vast number of reenactment groups in one place and time. Here, we can witness faithfully recreated costumes and behaviors of various historical groups that have left their mark not only on Polish but also on global history.

We can not only observe but also talk to people who passionately recreate Roman legionnaires, Japanese soldiers from 1937-45, medieval knights and their battles, modern special forces soldiers from Poland and the USA, as well as artisans, aspects of daily life, or dioramas of specific battles.

In one word – History.
(The interpretation of this history is left to each individual.)

On the other hand – Passion.
It’s worth being here to travel back in time and experience the lives of others.

In this post, I have included five graphics created in the style of oil painting based on photographs taken during the parade. The pictures were taken in a short amount of time, solely during the parade itself.

The paintings, however, were entirely created in Adobe Photoshop CC without using ready-made filters or automated brushes that significantly speed up and simplify the work. Each graphic was „painted” with a stylus on a graphics tablet, meaning every brushstroke came from my hand. Additionally, the effect was enhanced with embossing, creating an optical illusion of paint thickness.

As a background, I used a texture imitating canvas and, in selected images (graphics 4 and 5), I added additional brush marks. The colors were refined at the final stage.

In these graphics, I experimented with different types of brushes—from dry to wet, from small to large, from those that blend more to those that blend less (imitating painting on dry or wet paint), and from heavily loaded with paint to lightly coated. I’m not sure if all of this is immediately noticeable, but on a larger screen and with longer observation, it looks quite interesting.

The event itself is highly recommended. I’m considering presenting a few other photos processed using a different method. Personally, this was my first time attending this event, and definitely not the last.

A big round of applause for the organizers and participants.
Bravo, Niepołomice!

Fields of Glory

The selected graphics illustrate my skills in changing and affecting the visual appearance of a person, object, or landscape based on the original background. The final effect is subjective and covers a specific time frame. Each of us perceives things differently, and each of us has a different time frame or skill set. Posts published periodically with a specific thematic project aim to systematically collect materials illustrating graphic possibilities.

Enjoy watching!
